Wednesday, August 25, 2010 ~ 5:26 PM ART 341 - #2 Food truck research Being a "foodie" myself, I decided to work with the food truck idea. I attend First Fridays in Venice frequently so it's exciting to work with something I have a great appreciation for. Being a waiter at a Thai restaurant for the past two and a half years, I feel like I have great knowledge of Thai food so I decided the truck would feature on-the-go Thai cuisine. As for the logo, I want to do something that looks modern yet traditional to the Thai culture. I'm thinking about going with warm colors - reds, yellows, orange, maroon, brown, etc. Maybe a hint of a lime green as well. The Thai decor at my work is obviously a big inspiration to start with but I went ahead and googled some images that I thought would be appropriate for this project as well. Some miscellaneous Thai symbols. The country![]() Elephants are sacred in Thailand and are also a means of transportation (of people and food).![]() The mandala is a staple in Thai decor and Buddhist imagery. Don't really understand what this is, must be Thai Romeo & Juliet. Anyhow, you get the idea... Basil leaves are commonly used in Thai cuisine. I'd like to work this into my logo somehow.I'm pretty stoked about this first project, I would like this to eventually become a portfolio piece so please feel free to give me your thoughts and suggestions! Monday, August 23, 2010 ~ 10:33 AM ART 341 - #1 Why did you decide to become a graphic designer? I was always interested in art ever since I was younger. It was one of the few subjects that I consistently did well in or even cared for. I was originally interested in illustration but gradually become more infatuated with graphic design, especially publication and packaging design. Truth is and as cliche as it sounds, I wanted to be an artist sans the "starving" part. I also always wanted to live a creative life surrounded by creative people, so why not choose graphic design? I'm extremely interested in publication and print work. I love doing zine covers and editorial layouts. I haven't really dabbled much in web but I'm almost positive I would enjoy that as well. |
