These paintings are done by Chinese contemporary artist, Zhang Xiaogang. Zhang grew up during the politically and socially charged upheaval caused by the Cultural Revolution. From what I read, these paintings are not meant to draw links or remind us of the Cultural Revolution but rather to explore the psychology of the people who lived and came from this period. Love this guy!
